About West London Bangladesh Welfare Association (WLBWA)

Our Story

Founded in 1975, the West London Bangladesh Welfare Association (WLBWA) was established by a dedicated group of Bangladeshi restauranteurs and students with a shared vision of supporting newly arrived and settled Bangladeshi families across West London. Recognising the significant challenges faced by the community—including language barriers, cultural differences, and limited access to essential services—they set out to create an organisation that would provide guidance, support, and opportunities for a better future.

From its earliest days, WLBWA has worked to ensure that members of the Bangladeshi community can access education, employment, healthcare, public services, and wider community life with confidence. The Association also recognised the urgent need for reliable information, practical advice, and language assistance to help new immigrants successfully adapt to life in the United Kingdom while preserving their cultural identity.

Over the decades, WLBWA has grown into a respected cross-borough organisation, serving Bangladeshi communities across Brent, Ealing, Harrow, Hounslow, Hillingdon, Kingston upon Thames, and Richmond. Today, we continue to support individuals and families who may experience social exclusion, disadvantage, or barriers to opportunity, helping them build brighter and more independent futures.

Our Mission

The West London Bangladesh Welfare Association is committed to improving the quality of life for Bangladeshi communities throughout West London. We empower individuals and families to become self-sufficient, confident, and fully engaged members of UK society while preserving the richness of our cultural heritage, religious values, and Bengali language.

Aims & Objectives

Our work is guided by the following objectives:

Relieve Poverty and Improve Wellbeing

Provide advice, information, practical assistance, and community support to help disadvantaged and vulnerable members of the Bangladeshi community overcome poverty, improve their wellbeing, and achieve greater independence.

Promote Education and Social Development

Encourage lifelong learning by supporting education, arts, culture, leisure, and social welfare initiatives that benefit Bangladeshi communities and other minority ethnic groups, while strengthening local families and communities.

Develop Skills and Employment Opportunities

Support economic regeneration by delivering training, skills development, and employability programmes for young people and adults, helping to reduce social exclusion and create a skilled, adaptable workforce.
